Overview:

The game of basketball is one of the best sports for any young child to play. Our youth basketball academy is the perfect place for them to develop those essential skills both on and off the court in a safe, fun, and highly enjoyable environment. First Step Basketball Academy was established in 1999, at the Rockville Sportsplex in Maryland. Since that time, the academy has grown to Northern Virginia and the District of Columbia.

Our academy has professional coaches that will teach all the fundamentals of the game to your child at any level. We teach the fundamentals of the game but stress decision making and problem-solving on the court in a practice environment. Our professional coaches are experienced with the recreational, travel and the collegiate player. We emphasize rigorous training but we never forget that basketball should be played only because it is fun.

AGE GROUPS

Kids Basketball For Players Of All Ages

One thing that separates the First Steps Basketball Academy from other youth basketball programs is that our trained professionals appreciate that there cannot be one-size fits all solution. While older kids benefit from competitive leagues and matches, the younger players are best suited to training games that focus on those basic skills. Moreover, it’s important for players to experience different positions to work out their strengths and weaknesses on the court.

At Michael & Son SportsPlex at Dulles, the academy runs several different kids basketball courses for players of different ages and abilities. Each of the youth basketball programs is designed and tailored to the needs of the individual group, ensuring that the fun and progress are each at the highest possible level.

Individual courses include:

  • Little Hoopstars (4-6yrs)
  • Little Hands and Feet (4-6yrs)
  • Shining Hoopstars (8-9yrs)
  • Rising Hoopstars (6-8yrs)
  • Premier Steps (9-12yrs)

Coach Mike:

Coach Mike is a coach for Hoops the Right Way Basketball Academy with 15 years of coaching experience at various levels play.  His main focus is developing players abilities in a team setting and leadership on and off the court. He has a strong passion for working with the youth helping them reach their full potential.

Here at Michael & Son SportsPlex at Dulles, we are huge advocates of providing personalized and tailored training and tutoring that resonate with children. However, the content of our youth basketball program is certainly aided by the surroundings.
